For 6 centuries, two companies of stilts (a regional term for a wader who jousts on stilts) have regularly clashed to the delight of spectators.
On one side, the Melans representing the old town with their yellow and black stilts.
On the other, the Avresses, representing the new city and the suburbs, on their red and white stilts.

Their spectacular jousts have enchanted Emperors and Kings. Charles V, Louis XIV, Peter the Great of Russia, Napoleon… all attended a fight in Namur. Today, the stilts continue to perpetuate this living heritage that is the pride of the Namurians.
The group has about 40 artists with an average age of 25 years.
They have live music orchestra and are wearing traditional costumes.
